Packaging & Recycling 2025 will take place in the prestigious setting of Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese on 25 and 26 June. Now at its eighth edition, Packaging & Recycling 2025 is dedicated to plastic packaging and its lifecycle, from design to post-consumer recycling.
In a context in which public and media attention is increasingly focused on plastics, Packaging & Recycling 2025 stands out for its freshness and quality. In this field, the ability to keep pace with times plays a decisive role for packaging manufacturers, recyclers and technology suppliers looking for new solutions capable of combining high performance with respect for the environment.

Lightweight, versatile and environment-friendly, plastic materials have always been the focus of food and industrial packaging, in a process of evolution that never stops, where the role of biodegradable and compostable polymers is growing steadily.

The work involved the analysis of 53 recent peer-reviewed LCA studies in the scientific literature that analysed the environmental impacts of packaging by comparing plastic to alternative materials. The analysis showed that conventional plastics are not always the least environmentally friendly choice. Bioplastics allow for better performances than conventional plastics generally only for the climate change and the use of fossil resource indicators. Glass is often not recommended due to its high weight. For metals and paper, the comparison with plastics is more balanced.

Achievements include producing over 100 million jars with up to 65% recycled glass, saving 4,600 tons of virgin glass and 1,740 tons of CO2 emissions. Yoga bottle’s restyling follows a long process of improving production lines and packaging materials, aimed to reduce environmental impacts without affecting the quality of products.
Yoga has lightweighted its plastic preforms and eliminated the alu foil, now the bottles have been redesigned with a peculiar square shape that is easy to recognize but has sparked improvement in logistic and production lines to obtain the best results.

SETA Polymers was founded to produce auxiliaries for plastics, later specializing in special compounds and masterbatches for recycling. Recently, it has developed a method to recycle expanded and cross-linked EVA, PE, and PU. Cross-linking improves mechanical properties but makes recycling almost impossible, as the materials are no longer fusible (unable to be processed with standard methods). With REVERSEVA, the developed and patented process, a compound is produced with a maximum of 50-60% thermoset waste in a thermoplastic matrix.
